Swimming pool water is continually contaminated by dirt, chemicals, and bacteria which can make the water unsafe for bathing and swimming. Bacteria can produce infections and illnesses in bathers including the fatal Amoebic Meningitis. Swimming pool maintenance needs to take into consideration filtration and chemical disinfection
Here is a checklist of things to consider when maintaining a pool:
- Leaves and other organic matter should be removed daily.
- Vacuum regularly to remove dirt, sand and debris.

- Repair cracks and holes in the tiles and surroundings
- Keep pipes, filters and motors in good working order.
- Ensure that puddles near the pool are swept and cleared
- Service all pool equipment according to manufacturer’s directions.
- An automatic pool cleaner will help keep the pool clean and free of debris
